As Black women, our hair plays such a significant role in so many of our lives. Our hair is often our crown. And often due to the monolithic and Eurocentric beauty standards, it takes quite a bit of unlearning (or combatting socialization) in order to wholeheartedly love our hair and bask in its beauty. It can be difficult (even for people who are still learning to love their hair) to feel beautiful and confident even with little or no hair. And it’s even more challenging to hold space for both. Due to the world we live in, our Black hair in all shapes, sizes, curl patterns, and lengths is not only a statement but an act of silent protest and activism.
