I had a professor in grad school that always said, ‘we are all swimming in the socialization soup.’ Meaning that we are all socialized to believe certain things and in our society it’s all around us, in almost everything we engage with consciously and subconsciously. And so many of those things that we are socialized to believe are harmful. We have to actively work to unlearn this in order to create a truly safe space for all the people that inhabit the space on the planet with us. We all deserve safety.
